What our attendees are looking forward to

Last week Liz asked attendees a few questions about what they were looking forward to at CFUnited. Here are what some of you had to say...

What are you looking forward to most?

"Being surrounded by thousands of other CFML developers. I love the sense of community I get from attending CFUnited. This year will be my second (consecutive) in attendance, and I've already made plans to meet a few community folks I've been talking with on Twitter for a while now. CFUnited is also the only formal CF training I get every year, and it's great to see what everyone is up to and learn some tips and tricks to improve my own code. This year, I'm particularly hoping to pick up some new ColdSpring tricks from Mark Drew's Better Living Through Configuration presentation, as well as improve my OO approach by attending Peter Bell's RAD OO presentation. Most of all, though, I'm pumped to see what new stuff Joe Rinehart will be presenting on Model-Glue 3." - A. Tuttle

"I think I would have to say the chance to actually interact firsthand with people in the community that I truly admire and learn from." - S. Wing

Which speaker will most likely end up on your camera?

"At MAX it was Joe Rinehart, in london it was Chaz Chumely and Shlomy Gantz, in 2006 CFUnited it was Ben Forta, in 2007 CFUnited is was Nate Nelson and Simon Horwith, so this year I bet I'll have Ray Camden, Mark Drew, and probably some of the guys from Webapper." - L. Frederick

"As many as can fit in my camera, which means it will cover atleast all from the sessions I attend. I am eager to attend the ColdBox session by Luis Majano at the very minimum." - R. Narula

"I don't take many pictures and not a big fan of photography but if there is one possibility it might be Mark Drew after visiting the Tattoo place." - A. Haskell

"Ray Camden/Ben Forta" - L. Smith

What do you plan to do outside conference time?

"Since this will also be a mini vacation, I will be checking out some of the museums, galleries and hang around the bar (I understand this is where the best networking happens). I have also scheduled a photography workshop, with E. David Luria, where we will photograph the monuments at night when they're lit up." - M. Harman

"Well at cfObjective, I seemed to spend most of it watching the geek shows I had missed (Lost and BSG) during the conference. ;) At this one I'll probably spend most of my time at the bar since that's where all the best conversations are." - R. Camden

Fill in the blank: I will mainly be around the ______ booth.

"It will be Adobe and no points for guessing the reason :-). I would also make sure to pay my visit to the Fusion Authority booth, still have the T-shirt I won from their booth ;-)" - R. Narula

"I will mainly be around the Savvy Software booth as Joshua is a WoWer like me and I need to bug him for level 40+ tips." - R. Camden

Do you have a new project you are working on and will reveal it at CFUnited?f

"Yes I do - but as it is a work related project - it will get revealed back home after CFUNITED." - S. Wing

"Actually, I do have a project that about 10 people are working on right now. Hopefully all will be revealed and attendees will love it." - L. Frederick

CFUnited attendee registration package IMPORTANT

HELLO Attendees! Getting excited? We are too! I've been meaning to blog lately, so I'm backed up with information.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ

We are working really hard here at CFUnited headquarters. Coming up in the next couple weeks:

* Announcement of the ColdFusion celebration event is coming soon. Advisers agreed, now we are working with Adobe and Carasoft to iron out the details.

* We need everyone to fill out their SCHEDULER as soon as possible. We will make it mandatory if we don't get enough people to fill them in. This helps us determine what size room to put the sessions in. Please do this by May 10th for me.

* All TOPIC presentations that we currently have from speakers will be posted on the website beginning June 5th. Attendees can print the presentations and bring it with them to the conference. There will not be a show guide this year. All presentations will be viewable online during the conference as well. So while you are at the conference, you can download a presentation on your laptop and follow along.

* There will be wifi at the conference.

* We will not be sending snail-mail pre-conference packages this year. Instead everyone will get t-shirts, bags, and materials at the conference. You will need a photo ID if asked when you check-in to receive your name badge and goodies.

* We will send an email and post online a Registration Packet that you can print. Contains directions, maps, and information about the area and the conference.

* The conference will have to close at 1,000 attendees. We are not booked yet. I will keep people updated if we get within 100 registration spots available.

* We have new repeat topics, some new Adobe topics, and new sponsors. See details next week.

* Some cools things we will be adding to the site is a live webcam hooked into http://live.yahoo.com, possibly a mobile site for cfunited.com,

* Barnes & Nobles is running our bookstore in the expo.

* For those who are curious and familiar with the DC convention center: The Expo, General Session, and Cafeteria will be located in Hall B. The rooms we will hold the sessions are 152A/B, 140A/B, 158, 159. Registration will be on Concourse B.

* Still looking for sponsors! Only 5 silver booths left.

* We have so many places to eat downtown, list your dinner plans or favorites on the CFUnited Wiki!

* The CFUnited wiki will be updated with all the topics and you can add your notes about the session and share links.

* I have several things up my sleeve this year, so I hope everyone is ready for a crazy good time.

DON'T FORGET TO FILL OUR YOUR SCHEDULER http://scheduler.cfunited.com/

Dan Vega - I am going to CFUnited

I am so excited that I will be able to attend CFUnited this year. First off I just want to say what a great cfug meeting we had yesterday. Ben Forta and Adam Lehman gave a presentation on Lesser known goodies in ColdFusion 8. This was my first time meeting Adam and I have to say it was great. If you do not know Adam he is technical evangelist for ColdFusion. Overall I thought they both did a great job with the presentation as well as Q&A with everyone.

After the meeting we had a bunch of prizes to give away. I ended up wining a CFUnited portfolio. One of the big prizes was a free pass to CFUnited. While the first winner declined the pass the next winner was a member of the Adobe User group and her name is Kelly. We were actually sitting at the same table and when she came back to the table she asked me if I wanted to switch. I said what? She said here I know you want this and I am not going to use this. I can not thank Kelly enough for this. She could have easily sold it to the highest bidder but she gave it to me for nothing. I know this may not seem like a big deal to other but in this day and age It really is great to see. Hopefully I can find a way to pay her back!

With that being said I will be attending CFUnited this year and could not be more excited. I am really looking forward to the conference as well as the chance to meet all of you that I talk to all of the time. Two of my resolutions this year were to work more open source proejcts into my time and attend a major conference. So far 2008 is not looking to shabby!
