We understand that it is difficult to take time off for almost an entire week to attend a conference. While the event and learning is very useful, we all still have to maintain a proper work flow.

That's why at CFUnited we have created several work stations which provide a quiet and private area for attendees to work. All provided for FREE.

This is not an internet cafe, instead it is supplied with power strips, tables, seating, coffee, snacks, and excellent wireless Internet. We've upped the expectations this year.

The problem, you will find, and will always be the case, is the wifi. It simply is a horrible solution at a tech conference. As geeks we tend to be massive bandwidth consumers. Also, each and every one of us wants to be online. WiFi just won't handle the load placed on it as these conferences. I've been to numerous conferences and events. Never once has the wireless even been anything close to adequate.

I think it would be important to provide wired access at these workstations.

I think you might be surprised this year. They're on a pretty beefy ISP backbone and have hosted official MS conferences on several occasions.

I can't speak to the budget, but the numbers I was quoted for actual facility capacity are pretty high. Many times higher than the Bethesda Conference Center we've had it at previous years.

Will all ports be open? VPN ports etc, tend to be blocked a lot.

I think they should be. I was told we would have complete control over that stuff, and we tend to use VPN on site for things too.

If you need a real internet connection for business purposes, I would suggest to obtain a broadband card. I had Sprint one last year and it was available wherever I go and as I like.

If your business is critical, request one of the broadband cards from your management. :)

I'll second Oguz's comment: if a 'net connection is that important all the time you need a broadband card. For ~$70/month, I wouldn't be without mine! Today I went to the dentist during office hours and was able to get in 30 mins of useful work online because of the card. That sort of access means I don't need to take time off for lots of things where I would otherwise be "off the grid".
